Walking Albion

May 2, 2019 (AMN) – Walking Albion for 30 minutes a day or to your hearts content is a great way to improve and maintain your overall health. Walking with friends and neighbors can turn exercise into an enjoyable social occasion. Many residents whom walk the streets of our City also cleanup along their routes. As a weight bearing exercise walking can lead to increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness, reduced risk of heart disease and stroke, improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes, stronger bones and improved balance, increased muscle strength and endurance and reduced body fat. Walking for at least 30 at a normal or brisk pace is also a great way to take in nature and your environment.

We recommend you check with your doctor or healthcare provider before any exercise. Try to walk at the same time each day if possible or fit it in whenever you can. Remember, you use the same amount of energy, no matter what time of day you walk, so do what is most convenient for you. The recommended goal is 10,000 steps per day. You can track steps with a pedometer, mobile device or available wearable tech on the market ranging from $5 to $500 dollars or more.

Whether you’re headed to the Whitehouse Nature Center, Victory Park, or a stroll downtown to checkout a few of Albion’s offerings you can stay healthy. Many paths and trails around town allow walkers and runners to hydrate when passing a local shop or lapping the neighborhood and rehydrating from home. No matter which area of town you decide to explore you will always find a variety of birds and squirrels surrounding you. If you Trek to the Nature Center you will be surrounded by various colorful species that call Albion home. There are plenty of landmarks available to create your own path. Be sure to take pictures along the way and share them with your community.
