Union Board Hosts Albion on Ice

January 27, 2020 Patrick Smoker, (The Albion Pleiad) – On Saturday, Albion College Union Board held an event called “Albion on Ice” in upper Baldwin. The ice skating event included a hot chocolate station and free food, including homemade chicken noodle soup, macaroni and cheese and fruit platters.

At the beginning of the event, held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., only a few people were present. As the night went on, however, more people began to show up (Photo by Patrick Smoker).

Eon Entertainment put together a four-by-four foot synthetic ice skating rink that was pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle. With skates on, it was almost as slippery as real ice. Students did, however, find skating on this to be somewhat harder than skating on real ice. Nonetheless, they enjoyed the ice rink in upper Baldwin (Photo by Patrick Smoker).
Chrystelle Lopez, a sophomore from Los Angeles, glides on the synthetic ice rink. “I enjoyed this event very much,” said Lopez. “It was a great way to do something new on this campus and experience something different for a change. It was a great way to spend time with other college students, and I personally like these kinds of events and hope these events will continue forever.” (Photo by Patrick Smoker).
Alexander Valdez, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, smiles after stepping onto the rink. “[This event is] a great way to get people out of their dorms,” said Valdez. “Great to share funny moments with the people I don’t have class with and great way to learn about people and their amazing ability to be resilient” (Photo by Patrick Smoker).
