August 15, 2021 | Albion, MI | AMN – TOMAC Woods golf course will shutdown at the end of the 2021 season. Jeanne made the announcement in a letter posted on the TOMAC Woods website and Facebook page on August 15, 2021. Read the letter below.
“Just after my 17th birthday in 1963, my parents announced that they were going to build a golf course. Dad, Tom Manley, an amputee from WWII and Mom, Maxine, a polio survivor, hired an architect, purchased the farm where Dad grew up, and set forth on a great adventure, learning as they went forward. The name, Tomac Woods, reflects a combination of their first names.
We opened the front 9 in July, 1964. In 1967, they saw the need for a back 9 and started construction, carving fairways across Rice Creek and through the woods. It opened in the summer of 1968.
This year marks 58 years that I have been a part of Tomac Woods. In 1985, I was blessed to marry Dave, a lover of the great game of golf and together we have tried to carry on many of my parents’ traditions while initiating many of our own. It has been a wonderful experience. We have especially enjoyed YOU–the players–getting to know many of you well over the years.
But, time marches on. Recently an opportunity presented itself that would allow Dave and I to retire and spend our time with our 9 grandsons, the rest of our family and our friends. The property will be sold and it will be repurposed as a solar farm. Obviously this has been a challenging decision to make.
The course is open but will cease operations in mid-September. We will advise you of the timeline in the next few days.
In the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy playing at Tomac Woods. We look forward to talking with many of you, answering your questions, sharing memories and especially expressing our great and deep appreciation for your business and friendship.”
