Separate weekend fires at Battle Creek business considered suspicious

September 20, 2021 | Battle Creek, MI | (WKZO AM/FM) — Two separate weekend fires at a Battle Creek business are under investigation and are considered suspicious. They happened within 15 hours of each other at Behnke Warehouse on S. Union St.

The first one was reported around 6:45 Saturday evening. Fire crews discovered that three semi-trailers on a lot at the property had sustained damage. Two of them were empty and the third one was filled with tires. Then on Sunday morning at around 9:30, fire crews were called back after another fire in a semi-trailer was reported at the business.

Investigators say the trailers were unlocked and that one of the burning tires was located outside a trailer. An employee told authorities Sunday that someone had also entered personal vehicles.

Battle Creek police and fire officials are continuing to investigate and the official cause of both fires has not been determined. No injuries were reported.
