MICHIGAN — Nearly 100,000 cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in Michigan as of Thursday morning, according to the most recent data provided by state health officials.
Michigan added 758 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, bringing the statewide virus case total to 99,958. The state also reported 16 more deaths being attributed to the coronavirus, increasing the death toll in Michigan to 6,440.
Fifteen of the new deaths were identified through a vital records search, officials said Michigan is ranked 18th in the U.S. in coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organization. Michigan is ninth in the nation is deaths attributed to the coronavirus, a statistic that the state had previously ranked third in.
In the U.S., more than 6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, according to the World Health Organization. Over 184,000 people in the U.S. have died from the virus. More than 3.3 million people in the U.S. have recovered from the virus.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 24.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported around the world. That number includes over 832,000 deaths attributed to the virus and nearly 17 million recoveries.
