HASTINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are battling a large building fire in Hastings Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at the old Hastings Manufacturing building located near the intersection of Mill and Hanover streets. Firefighters from multiple agencies are on scene battling the blaze.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

Authorities say the fire has caused a power outage in the Hastings area. The Consumers Energy outage map shows that thousands of customers are without power. The utility company estimates power will be restored as early as 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The power outages forced Hastings Area Schools, Barry Intermediate School District, Maple Valley Schools, Barry County Christian School and Lakewood Early Childhood Center to close Wednesday.

A lieutenant with the Freeport Fire Department told News 8 that there are no reports of injuries and authorities don’t believe anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.

It’s unknown what caused the blaze.

News 8 has a crew on scene, working to find out more information. Check back with for updates throughout the day.
