Final Year of the Emmett Township Local Road Project

Final Year of the Emmett Township Local Road Project

(AMN) – This is the third and final year of the Emmett Township Local Road Project, the 2019 voter-approved road construction project to repave the nearly 75 miles of local roads in Emmett Township. The remaining 11 miles of roadwork in the 2022 construction season are spread throughout the township.

The most significant impact on traffic is in the Harper Village area. Work around the shopping district will be performed at night to minimize traffic impact as much as possible. Also, 6 Mile south of Sam’s and Walmart will be closed for several weeks, and traffic should seek an alternate route when that work takes place.

Most roads being repaved will remain open to residents within any closure, and driveway access will be maintained at all times of construction. Other motorists who do not live on these streets should find alternative routes until closures are lifted.

The most dramatic work that will take place this summer is the replacement of the culvert on E Drive North over Minges Brook, which will result in road closure for multiple weeks. This week, the road is being prepared for pulverization and will be left as a gravel road until the culvert is replaced later this summer. The work on the culvert replacement will not begin until the end of July due to fish spawning restrictions, as well as time to manufacture the culvert. Once this work begins, even emergency vehicles will not be able to pass. That will be announced on the department Facebook page and via text notification before it closes later this summer.
