May 5, 2019 Albion, MI (AMN) – The Collaboration Corner Town Hall meeting will be held tomorrow May 6 at 5:30pm at City Hall. Collaboration Corner is the small park with a Little Free Library located directly between BIGGBY Coffee and the new Oaklawn Medical Urgent Care on Monroe Street in Albion. The two primary issues to be discussed are parking and the park itself. The meeting is scheduled to see how the community stands on the issue. This same topic of discussion was tabled approximately a year ago due to parking being available directly behind the new Oaklawn location along with two large spaces available for parking directly on Monroe Street. Collaboration Corner is used by children and their parents on a daily basis and the current location assured that a majority of residents do not have to cross Michigan Avenue traffic to access the Free Library closest to them.
Little Free Libraries across the nation afford access to a variety of literature for children and young adults in all communities. Oaklawn has contemplated the idea of adjusting the size of park, a possible parking garage behind the Oaklawn facility & new medical school or a slight expansion of the current lot behind the building. Residents have stated that the few spaces that Collaboration Corner would possibly provide would not be adequate for the faculty and would be a half measure. Collaboration Corner serves the Community and the College by promoting literacy. This little positive Free Library along with three others around town are wonderful promoters of community, teamwork, and literacy.
