May 13, 2019, Albion, MI (AMN) – If it’s one thing Albion has plenty of, it’s churches. With no shortage of churches, Albion, however, is not seeing growth in congregations. The First Presbyterian Church Of Albion held its final sermon and service recently. Rev. Charlotte Ellison gave the last sermon. After being founded in 1837. The original building burnt down in 1883 after a fire consumed the church leaving only the frame. After the fire, a new church was built using two lanes of stained glass that were intact after the fire. After 182 years of serving the community, it’s hard to watch the doors close. This church has kept the community together and has been blessed by its congregation. The Presbytery of Lake Michigan who owns the building will be searching for the building’s next purpose. They hope that another worshipping body will give the building new life. The final sermon opened with the following statement, “I’m Rev. Charlotte Ellison, and this is harder than it looks.” Elena Solero then led the congregation into an opening hymn.
