Albion City Council Approves M-99 Reconfiguration Plan

August 19, 2021 | Albion, MI | AMN – After input from residents and local businesses the City of Albion approved the reconfiguration for M-99 also known as Business 94 & Michigan Avenue. The reconfiguration will include the half mile stretch from Ionia Street to Mingo Street passing through Albion College. M-99 is a major trunkline maintained by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The route has seen it’s fair share of accidents due to fading pavement markings leading to an inability to enforce reckless driving.

The reconfiguration will include one lane each direction with accompanied parking along the route. The City of Albion will be responsible for maintaining parking while MDOT will maintain the road. MDOT worked with the community and it’s representatives to reach a final decision. The main goal is to reduce reckless driving, & improve safety. Work was initially slated to begin at the end of Summer 2021 but will be tentatively scheduled for Spring 2022.
