S2 Emily Smith Creates a Sidewalk and Street Sign Grid to Report Issues

Albion (AMN) – Tuesday an AmeriCorps Vista Revealed an Application she designed for the City of Albion Residents to report issues with their sidewalks and street signs. It Works with your Cellphone’s GPS and enables real time reporting of issues which enables workers to repair these issues. City Wide Event March 16th 2019 and March 23rd, 2019

You will be prompted if you would like to use the App in your Browser or to Download the Survey 123 Field App onto your Android or Iphone.

Emily Smith gives us a note of warning writing “Please remember to use caution and obey all laws while collecting data. If you need proof of participation, please contact esmith@cityofalbionmi.gov BEFORE you begin collecting data. ” (Smith, 2019)

The App Uses Your Cellphones GPS


Emily’s instructions easily guide one through the use. She tells us that ” GPS: In the device’s Settings, ensure the Location feature has been turned on. Return to report and wait until location registers (bar turns green). This may take a few minutes. Location accuracy must be within 10 meters (approximately 32.8 feet).” While using a Web Browser: The location may not automatically display. Therefore one will need to click on the map or Press or Click on the Map and Move map until the marker is at the location. The App is more of an ideal way to use this S2 grid to report issues but If the location does not automatically display on the map or in the bar, Click on the “Press to capture location using map” box and in the next window, Click on the Location. When finished, click the check mark in the lower right corner to return to the report.

To improve accuracy, please provide the nearest homes address.

Next one can rate the current condition of the Sidewalk or Street Sign.

One can also submit a picture of the damaged Sidewalk or Street sign.

Emily provides further instructions “

Web Browser:Folder: To select an existing image, click on the box labeled “Press here to choose image file.” Select file from the pop up window and click Open.

Camera: If camera is available, click on the camera icon to access the camera. Click the camera again to capture the image. When finished, you should be automatically redirected to the report. If not, click the check mark to return to the report.

App: Folder: Click the folder icon to select an existing photo. In the next screen, click on the photo to select it. Camera: Click on the camera icon to access the camera. Click the camera icon again to take a photo. When finished, you should be automatically redirected back to the report. If not, click the check mark in the lower right corner to return to the report.

Once one has gone through post comments and if you have a username enter it and press or click the submit button.
