City of Albion – City Hall

March 20, 2019 (AMN) — Rufus has been charged with one count of embezzlement by a public official over $50 and another count of embezzlement over $1,000 but less than $20,000 according to Prosecutor David Gilbert. Gilbert reviewed between 5,000 and 6,000 pages of evidence submitted by the Calhoun County Sheriff Department before authorizing the charges.

The investigation showed “inappropriate use of funds,” Sheriff Matt Saxton said Tuesday afternoon. “She was using a credit card for personal expenses.” Mayor Pro Tem Sonya Brown, 5th Precinct Councilwoman Jeanette Spicer and 6th Precinct Councilman Shane Williamson professionally declined to comment on the charges. 1st Precinct Councilwoman Vicky Clark, 2nd Precinct Councilwoman Lenn Reid and 4th Precinct Councilwoman Marcola Lawler could not be reached for comment via email for phone. Investigators are estimating that Rufus improperly used about $3,400.

Rufus began working in Albion and getting situated in October. After running into troubles with her apartment readiness she began looking for other residence in town. Rufus also had trouble with some residents whom have been claimed to stalk her residence and whereabouts around town. Many questions still remain about the situation surrounding Rufus and possible illegal access to information by some residents with City connections.

What will the City of Albion do now that another City Manager has departed the position? The City needs a qualified individual whom can bring the city together for the good of all whom call Albion home. Albion needs to come together for the betterment of the city and have faith in one other.
