March 22, 2019 (AMN) Cathy Albro Statement —
Cathy Albro has made the decision not to run for office in 2020. She released a statement this morning via social media and email to all her supporters.
” I have made the decision to not run for Congress in 2020. Electing candidates who will stand up to corporate- financed politicians and change the system is of the highest priority and the goal of my continuing work. I will keep this Facebook page active (with a new name) sharing important conversations focused on issues. Thank you for your support! Here is a letter I’ll be sending out today to our contact list.
I hope this finds you well.
It’s been a few months since you’ve heard from me and I’ve enjoyed the time to observe and reflect. We must elect candidates who are bold in their fight for economic justice, health care and high-quality education for all, 80%+ clean energy by 2030, humane immigration policy, and so much more.
Recently, we have seen intelligent young people stepping up to tell us “grown-ups” that we haven’t been doing our job. This is a world they must live in long after we are gone. I’m impressed by their strength to defy the status quo; the only way bold changes will happen. They are fearless in calling out corruption and exposing the lies that harm our democracy.
Days after the election, I decided to run again and filed as a 2020 candidate with the FEC. But since then, several young people in our district have expressed an interest to run. I believe we need to open the door to younger and more diverse candidates who are fired up to make the bold changes needed to survive and thrive as a country, world and species.
Therefore, I have decided I will not be a candidate for Congress but will work diligently to make sure courageous candidates are elected. We have time to talk to our friends and neighbors about hopes for their children and other peoples’ children. I urge you to stay or get involved now to build the foundation necessary to elect the candidates who will make the bold changes happen.
Thank you so much for your support throughout the last campaign and your encouragement to run again. This was a difficult decision. I treasure all the friendships that we’ve made along the way.
Although I am not running for office, I will redirect my energy for causes that put people first and support the best candidates for the difficult job ahead. Please join me and make change happen. I hope to see you out there.
