Hi Jerry, we were not aware of the Nightly BLM activity going on in Albion, or the Albion Michigan Black Lives Matter Group. Now that we are aware, we will post and share your content.

We had one incident of assault against us on night one after the person threatened to shoot us. A police report was filed.

Albion Michigan News
Did you get this on video?

Albion Michigan News
I was told someone hit someone in the head with a thermos?

Albion Michigan News
I did not know someone was threatening to shoot!

Jerry Lashley
Unfortunately, we did not have video rolling (we are now every night), but we had two witnesses to the assault and six more that saw the assailant trying to instigate a fight 30 minutes before the assault. I was the person assaulted. The assailant hit me with a metal thermos in the head after saying he should shoot us in the face. He was never touched before or after the assault, although I had every reason to strike back.

Albion Michigan News
I am so sorry you had to experience that. I hope you are doing better from being hit in the head with a metal thermos beyond acceptable no matter what.

Do you think the violence between Dem and Rep is going to increase as the election gets closer?

Albion Michigan News
I am also floored at the threat to shoot that’s assault with a deadly weapon, and I hope charges are brought against the perpetrator of that threat. Violence is never the solution to any situation; it only makes things worse.

Jerry Lashley
Any situation it only makes things worse. Thank you, I am doing good. It’s not slowing me down.

I try not to generalize when it comes to the political affiliation of those standing against the fight for equality, but the truth is those that stand against equality are generally Trump supporters (I don’t use the term Republican in reference to them because it’s not that simple. Trump’s base is the biggest threat to the movement).

I do personally believe things will get substantially worse and more violent the closer we get to the election, largely due to the propaganda shared by the Trump administration. I do not see any semblance of unity from this administration, only division.

This is the first time I’ve been physically assaulted while standing for equity, but me and my family have been threatened numerous times.

Jerry Lashley
Thank you, but I never want thanks. I want equity, and I’m willing to sacrifice anything for that.
401 years of inequality is far too long. I’ll fight forever for my brothers and sisters of color if need be. I appreciate your voice, and I’ll keep using mine as long as I have it.

What is the purpose of the F the police sign? Every time I read it, I think of the NWA song. I know that’s not going to be a universal reaction. What do you believe people think when reading that?

Jerry Lashley
I know it is very inflammatory and garners extreme responses on both sides, love it, or hate it. I hope to be proud of the police one day, but not until the broken system is fixed.

Over policing has been an issue in the black community since the emancipation of the slaves. Laws, like the war on drugs, were created to keep African Americans down.

I do not hate police officers as human beings, but I can not support an organization that targets minorities at an alarming rate. 34% of the population of American prisons are black men. That’s disgusting. So yes, I say fuck the police, but mostly I blame the entire system that has been complacent while systemic racism runs rampant.

I also know that a sign declaring Black Lives Matter is just as inflammatory to many of Trumps’ base. Those that stand against equity will always find a reason to hate.

The majority of the protests I’ve been involved in, I’ve opted not to carry that sign, but after the grand jury decided the only charges in the Breonna Taylor case were for the bullets that missed her body, I’ll carry that sign every day.
